SALT LAKE CITY – A West Jordan man is dead after a rollover crash in western Nevada on Monday.

Troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the crash just after 5 a.m. on I-80 in Elko County, about 23 miles west of West Wendover, officials said in a press release.

Investigators said preliminary information indicates a gold Oldsmobile Alero was traveling east on the highway in the left travel lane.

"The Oldsmobile failed to maintain its travel lane and drove into the dirt center median, striking a metal paddle marker with its left side," troopers said in the release.

The driver, identified as Matthew Allen Szukala, 52, was steering to the right then immediately to the left, causing the Oldsmobile to re-enter the dirt center median. The car went to the right again, causing the Oldsmobile to rotate clockwise while in the dirt center median. The Oldsmobile's left tires furrowed, causing it to roll.

Officials said the man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the vehicle and died from his injuries.

An investigation remains ongoing into the crash.
