SALT LAKE CITY — The public is getting a look inside the newly-renovated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Open house tours began Saturday and run through Aug. 25, excluding Sundays. The temple closed for extensive renovation at the end of 2009.

The renovation includes:

  • Two new wings
  • New art glass throughout the building
  • Triple-paned insulated glass incorporating the colors of the Argentine flag
  • New decorative painting and gold leafing reflect patterns taken from historic architecture in Buenos Aires
  • Decorative wood trim and paneling feature Anigre and Makore hardwoods from Africa

Additionally, the landscaping and gardens have been redesigned to include a new entryway fountain.

The temple will be formally rededicated on Sunday, Sept. 9.

When originally completed, the Buenos Aires Temple was the church's 39th temple worldwide and the fourth in South America. It is now one of 138 temples in operation.
