SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Sanpete County woman charged with shaking and killing her newborn daughter has entered a plea.
On Wednesday, 21-year-old Carmen E. Papenfuss pleaded NOT guilty to child abuse homicide in the December death of her 19-day-old daughter Selah Papenfuss.
Attorneys are releasing few details about the case. But prosecutors allege the child died from shaken baby syndrome.
However, Papenfuss' attorney says her client claims she did NOT shake, kill or hurt her daughter in any way.
The woman is now free on her own recognizance. If convicted, Papenfuss faces up to 15 years in prison.
