SALT LAKE CITY — Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins will perform with a choir that was formed by Welsh immigrants in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Pioneer Day Concerts this weekend.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be joined by Jenkins for the two concerts in the Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Friday and Saturday. Jenkins has sold 7 million albums, danced her way to television stardom, and recently performed in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration. She is one of Britain's favorite singers, and one of the fastest-selling mezzo- sopranos ever.
"This really is going to be a very, very special concert for me," Jenkins said. "My first time in Salt Lake City, in Utah, and I guess after all this dancing, it's gonna be nice to get back to what comes more naturally to me, which is the singing."
Featuring British singing sensation, Katherine Jenkins Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets have been distributed, standby line will begin at the flagpole on Temple Square.
The choir extended the invitation to Jenkins while she was performing on "Dancing With the Stars."
"We're gonna have probably one of the best shows, if not the best shows we've ever, ever had, and we'll have surprises for everyone," said Mormon Tabernacle President Mac Christensen.
The performances will feature the breadth of Jenkins' abilities: show tunes, opera, and even a Welsh song. The singers say they are thrilled to perform with the singer.
"Wherever she goes she's loved and she's done so much for so many outside the arts," Christensen said. "This is a magnificent person."
Tickets for both performances are sold out, but there will be a standby line.
