CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) - Utah transportation officials say they're ahead of schedule to open a portion of a southern Utah highway that's been blocked since a massive landslide last fall.
Officials say there will be dirt road access through the landside area on State Route 14 starting Memorial Day weekend.
A landslide in Cedar Canyon in October destroyed nearly a half mile of the scenic byway that connects Interstate 15 to U.S. Highway 89 between Cedar City and Kane County.
The repairs cost an estimated $14 million.
The dirt road will open 3 p.m. Thursday, May 24, and will remain open through the long weekend. After that, it will close from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on most weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, until the fix is complete.
