CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- After two years performing an interim role, R. Scott Phillips has been named director of the Utah Shakespearean Festival.
After a national search, the announcement was made yesterday.
Phillips has been the festival's interim director since December 2005, taking over for retiring festival founder Fred C. Adams.
As director, Phillips says he hopes to grow the festival's financial resources while continuing to produce the kind of quality work that earned the festival a Tony Award.
He'll also continue the push for an elaborate new Shakespeare center that includes new theaters, a theme shop and a costume shop.
Phillips has deep festival roots. He was its managing director for 15 years and marketing director for 13 years. In 2001 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Utah Theatre Association.
