DRAPER -- Police have identified the body removed from the Jordan River Sunday.
Anne Kasprazak, 15, from the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, was found Sunday after the Draper Police Department responded to reports of suspicious activity.
Officers arrived around 10 a.m. to find a single bloody shoe on a footbridge, which also had blood on it. To assist in the investigation, Utah Highway Patrol was called to survey the area by helicopter, and they spotted the body around 2 p.m. in an area inaccessible to police. Search and Rescue recovered the body around 4 p.m. from the river near 12600 South, about a mile south from the crime scene.
"We were just looking. We didn't even know if we had a body, and while they were flying through the air we did locate that body," said Draper Police Sgt. Chad Carpenter.
The shoe found with the body matched the shoe found that morning, linking the crime scene and the girl together. Police said injuries on her body were "consistent with the original crime scene," leading them to believe it was homicide.
"We don't know how it happened, what happened," Carpenter said. "We don't know anything, and so anytime there is that big question mark, we also treat it like (a homicide) until we can determine it's not."
Draper police are waiting for autopsy results from the state medical examiner to determine cause and time of death.
