WELLSVILLE — The rain is causing big problems for several Cache County residents.
Early Thursday they were hit with fast flood water that pushed through windows and even doors.
At about 6 a.m., a rush of flood waters came crashing into Robin Cooper's Wellsville home. She said within about five minutes, the water was a few feet deep and covering their whole basement.
"It just happened so fast," she said. "It just shattered it, and it was so loud, you could just hear it gushing."
Tyrell Smith's mother called him when the flood hit.
"I got a frantic call saying there was about two feet of water in her basement," he said. "By the time I got over here, the back door busted in and there was about 4.5 feet of water."
According to Cache County Emergency Management, the hillsides were frozen, leading to sheet flooding because the water had nowhere to go but down.
"The sheet flooding came down so quickly that the canals, that the ditches could not hold all of the water," said director Rick Williams. "Consequently, we have homes and areas with water that have never experienced problems int he past."
Firefighters and county workers are trying to pump the water out in case the rain does not let up, in case the it happens again.
