(KSL News) A weekend full of rallies is expected to continue into this week. Thousands are expected to march on the nation's capitol and in other cities around the country.

In Salt Lake, demonstrators will gather at the City and County Building in downtown Salt Lake at 4:30 this afternoon. It's called the "Unity Rally," organized by the Utah Hispanic Legislative Task Force.

Yesterday, that area was a hot spot. An estimated 25,000 people crowded Washington Square for an immigration rally, taking part in one of the largest protests in Utah history.

People on both sides of the issue came to speak their mind.

Teresa Paredes, West Valley City Resident: "We're here for the U.S. dream, you know. We're here for the dream."

Most of the protestors joined the rally to oppose the proposed changes to laws applying to illegal immigrants. They want undocumented workers to be allowed to stay and become citizens.

Those protestors numbered in the thousands. About 150 turned up for a counter-demonstration.

Brent Burdette, Utah Minuteman Project: "It should be a felony. If you're here illegally, you should be deported."

Police armed with clubs stood close by, helmets on, ready to step between the opposing groups, but there was no violence.

Today's protest, "The Unity Rally," is organized by people opposing the immigration reform. Echoing yesterday, the Minutemen plan to show up again and counter-demonstrate.
