SANDY -- A community service project headed by Appliance Man in Sandy will provide those who need new appliances with working ones Saturday, August 6.

The "[Pay it forward appliance swap]()" will take place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the Appliance Man parking lot, 9069 S. State Street. Community members with out-of-use washers, dryers, refrigerators, electric ranges and such items are encouraged to donate the day of the event, though donation arrangements can be made throughout the week. Appliances will be tested and repaired, if necessary, on-site by technicians and Appliance Man service staff, who will donate their time.

For those who are interested in helping but have no such appliances, volunteers for pick-up and drop-off are needed to coordinate lifting and loading.

Those who need working appliances are required to apply in-store or online for the items they need and can pick them up Saturday. Upgrading is discouraged and only those who cannot afford working appliances should apply.

"There are so many machines people have out there just sitting in their garages not knowing what to do with them after they switch out their appliances," John Rushton, owner of Appliance Man said. "We thought it's a good program to give back to the community and help facilitate the switch of these appliances and try to get them back to those in the community who need them."
