FIVE MILE PASS, Tooele County — A 10-year-old Eagle Mountain boy is dead after the ATV he was riding on rolled over during a steep hill climb.
The boy was riding on the four-wheeler with a 31-year- old woman who was driving when the accident happened around 3:30 p.m., said Tooele County Sheriff Sgt. Ron Johnson. While climbing the hill, the vehicle may have lost power, then it rolled off to one side and fell down a 22-foot embankment into a ravine strewn with large rocks, Johnson said.
The woman's boyfriend called 911.
The woman, Jennifer Medaris of Eagle Mountain was severely injured and complaining of numbness and extreme pain. She had been baby sitting the boy while his parents were at work. Both victims were transported by medical helicopter for University Hospital in Salt Lake City.
The Tooele County Sheriff's Office reports the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Five Mile Pass, which is about 15 miles west of Lehi on SR-73.
The boy's name has yet to be released.
