SALT LAKE CITY -- The news that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a former employee came as a shock to many. It's believed to be one of the driving reasons behind his split with wife of 20-plus years, Maria Shriver. But perhaps even more shocking is the revelation that Shriver knew nothing of the situation until recent months.

While the level of dishonesty demonstrated by California's former governor may be an extreme example, honesty is a daily part of relationships.

We've all heard of the spouse who hides a purchase, sneaking that shopping bag through the back door. Maybe you aren't truthful with how you spend your time, or perhaps you fudge a little on what time your teenager really got home last night, to avoid conflict in the home. Do those smaller untruths affect a marriage?
