SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah woman who opened her heart and her home to a struggling single mother and her child won a KSL High 5 this week.

Raven Hill nominated Kelli Hamilton for a High 5. "She just put up her home for me as a single parent. I couldn't afford it myself. She let me come into her home and become part of her family," Raven explained.

Raven recently moved to Utah from Georgia. She was pregnant and was already struggling to care for baby Shawn, who has cerebral palsy, among other health issues. Kelli opened her home and opened her heart.

"I needed some extra help and couldn't afford it myself. I needed an extra arm around my shoulder and Kelli provided that arm," Raven said.

Kelli said, "I feel far more blessed by Raven and Shawn than I could have done for them."

"Raven is just a light. She brings a light to all. Shawn is the most special baby," she added.

Kelli supported the two through many of Shawn's 14 surgeries. And when Raven made the difficult decision to place her unborn child for adoption, Kelli was right by her side.

"Hopefully I can help inspire her to make choices like go to school, things that will help her and Shawn in the long run and make their life easier," Kelli said.

At Kelli's encouragement, Raven is planning to go back to school and study nursing. She would like to work in neonatal, helping babies like Shawn.

Our High 5 partners, Les Schwab, presented Kelli with a gift basket as thanks.
