SALT LAKE CITY -- A woman who saw a High 5 story we aired two weeks ago was inspired to take action.
We spotlighted Richard Davis, a man affectionately known as the knitting grandpa. Over the years, Davis has knit hundreds of baby hats and donated them to hospitals. He even offers them to strangers on the street.
"You feel good doing stuff like that," he said.
Courtney Sorensen saw that story and contacted us about getting in touch with Davis. Her grandmother, who also used to knit tirelessly, passed away recently and left Sorensen with lots of yarn.
She wanted to give the yarn to Davis.
"When I saw his story I thought, ‘Oh, this is perfect.' She would have been thrilled to know that this was going to something that she had done herself," Sorensen said.
Davis said, "I thought, ‘Well, I could always use yarn.'"
"You don't have to have a lot to be able to give of your time or yourself. It takes very little to make somebody else happy," Sorensen said.
Davis said that extra yarn will help him make dozens of soft, new hats.
Sorensen didn't want the recognition for her service, but we felt like her spirit of paying it forward deserved a High 5. She received a gift basket from our High 5 partners, Les Schwab.
