SALT LAKE CITY -- The storms pounding the Midwest Sunday have forced the cancellation of 16 flights between Salt Lake City and the Chicago area.

Salt Lake International Airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann says seven flights out of Salt Lake and nine inbound flights have been canceled as of Sunday afternoon due to the weather. She says anyone traveling to the Chicago area Sunday should expect delays.

Gann says more cancellations and delays are likely as the night progresses.

The massive Midwest snowstorm forced Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports to cancel more than 1,000 flights.
