SALT LAKE CITY -- Confidence in Utah's real estate market is still shrinking in Utah. With the current problems in the housing market, more and more realtors are walking away.
Utah has just over 13,500 realtors in the state. That's down 12.63 percent from last year and down 43 percent from 2007.
"That was the second biggest drop among all states in the nation, Georgia being the highest, Salt Lake Board of Realtors communications director David Anderton said.
He said even though housing sales are starting to inch up, the increase hasn't been noticeable enough to bolster confidence in Utah's real estate market.
"People just haven't felt that sales are back. They haven't felt that. When you say ‘a 3 percent increase in sales,' people don't feel that," he said.
There is one sign Utah may have bottomed out in the number of realtors leaving the industry, though. There was a slight increase in the number of realtors from August to September of this year.
