ST. GEORGE -- Fire crews in St. George discovered a badly decomposed body while fighting a brush fire caused by the city's annual fireworks celebration Saturday night.
The body was found around 10 p.m. about 75 feet off Red Hills Parkway near 450 East. The undeveloped area is located at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff.
"Right now we don't have any identity on the body, if it's male or female." said Sgt. Scott Lemmon with the St. George Police Department. "It's been decomposed and also had some fire damage."
Investigators say it appears the body had been in the area for quite some time. They secured the scene and have launched an investigation.
Police are reviewing missing persons cases in the area in an effort to identify the victim.
The body was sent to the medical examiner in Salt Lake City for an autopsy.
