LINDON -- The Utah Highway Patrol says a man and a woman in their 70s were killed in a crash on Interstate 15 in Utah County. Tuesday afternoon, UHP identified the two as 67-year-old Maria Esther of St. George and 76-year-old Aquistin Isas Rios of Ogden.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden says a bread delivery truck slammed into a Jeep Cherokee that became disabled on the freeway about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday near Lindon.
Esther and Rios, who were in the Cherokee, were killed. A man driving the Cherokee and two children received unspecified injuries. The truck driver was not seriously hurt.
"Expect the unexpected," says UHP Sgt. Todd Royce. "Sometimes we get driving on the freeway and we become nonchalant on what we're doing and where we're going. Be aware that there might be something in the roadway, there might be debris in the roadway."
The road was closed for several hours during the morning commute while troopers investigated and cleared the accident scene.
