AMERICAN FORK — A South Jordan man is accused of embezzling more than $500,000 from his former employer.
Matthew Allan Mandros, 43, was charged Tuesday in 4th District Court with 17 counts of theft by deception and engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity, second-degree felonies; and embezzlement, a third-degree felony.
The investigation began July 14, 2025, when American Fork police were asked to look into possible fraud.
"The reporting party indicated that a former employee, identified as Matthew Allan Mandros, had embezzled $517,185 from the company," according to charging documents.
Investigators learned that Mandros worked as a recruiter for the company and "had access to company funds to pay approved expenses.
"While employed as a recruiter, the defendant created a sham advertising entity called Indeed Brand Ads and diverted company funds to that entity rather than legitimate advertising, using the funds for his own personal gain," the charges state. "Starting in January of 2024, the defendant started making payments each month to an entity listed as Indeed Brand Ads. In each of the 17 months in question, the defendant made payments on behalf of the company to his own bank account. The amounts ranged in size from $6,000 in January of 2024 to as much as $40,000 in July of 2024."
Charging documents do not state the name of the business Mandros allegedly stole money from.
