OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Ten refugee families from the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast have shown up in Ogden.

Marci Valdez, development director for the Northern Utah Chapter of the American Red Cross, said the 10 families went to Ogden on their own and are being treated the same as any local family that needs help.

"We opened 10 cases and are providing them with cash help and housing in local hotels," she said. "We've referred them to Workforce Services to try to help them find jobs."

People needing help are showing up everywhere, even as people and governments are scrambling to help.
