SALT LAKE CITY — President Russell M. Nelson, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will continue his global ministry tour with a visit to Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, Canada, in September, the church announced Wednesday.

President Nelson will speak at devotionals at Safeco Field in Seattle Sept. 15 and the Langley Centre in Vancouver Sept. 16, church officials said in a statement. He and his wife, Wendy Nelson, will be joined by President Henry B. Eyring, the second counselor in the First Presidency — the top governing body of the LDS Church.

Washington has 546 LDS congregations and more than 288,000 members, while Canada has 496 congregations and 197,000 members.

Members of the LDS Church in Alberta, Canada, also received a visit from President Nelson in early June. The LDS prophet will be visiting three more Canadian cities later in August: Winnipeg, Montreal and Hamilton.

President Nelson's stops in Seattle and Canada are an extension of a global tour that, in April, took the church president to eight countries in 11 days: England, Israel, Kenya, Zimbabwe, India,Thailand,China and the U.S.

Headquarters for the LDS church are in Salt Lake City, but there are more than 16 million members around the world, according to church officials.
