THE HIDEOUT — A lot of moviegoers out there are excited about the next chapter in the Ocean’s franchise, “Ocean’s 8.” The movie boasts a fantastic cast and has some fun twists and turns, but is it appropriate for a night out with the family?

This is our parent’s review of the film and not the review where we tell you what we thought. You can find the full review here.

Instead, this is for people who may be on the fence about letting their kids head to the movie based on the content in the film.

As always, we are not here to tell you what you should or should not let your kids see, instead we here to give you a sneak peek into the content of “Ocean’s 8” so you can make a more educated decision about whether or not you want to let your 12-year-old head out to the movie with his or her friends tonight.

So, parents, you’re welcome, and to teenagers everywhere I apologize. Here is what parents need to know about “Ocean’s 8.”

Sexuality

I’d say “Ocean’s 8” lives up to its PG-13 rating in the sexuality category, but it’s not a borderline R rating either.

Some of the characters wear very revealing tops and there is at least one sex scene. You don’t really see anything happen other than some heavy kissing, but that’s about where it ends until you see a man wake up shirtless in the morning.

There are some discussions of love affairs and sex, but nothing very graphic. I’d say the “Ocean’s 8” sexuality factor is a little higher than “Ocean’s Eleven,” but not by much.

Violence

This area is really at a minimum; in fact, it’s almost not even there.

Much like the films before it in the franchise, “Ocean's 8” isn’t about violent criminals but smart ones who use their brains to get what they want instead of brawn.

There is a level of danger present in the film, but no real violence. I’m not even sure there was a slap to the face or anything like that in the entire film.

Language

“Ocean’s 8” very much solidified its PG-13 rating with the language in the film.

When the movie ended I thought the language was stronger than it was in any of the previous Ocean’s films, but then I realized I needed to take a step back considering I have not seen those movies for a while, so it’s tough to do a fair comparison.

I will say characters curse a fair amount and a very loud exclamation of an R-rated word is blurted out. I’m not sure saying it loud makes it any worse, but the filmmakers made it a point to have it stand out.

I wouldn’t say the language is overly offensive or should be pushing the R rating threshold, but it is more prevalent than a lot of the PG-13 movies we’ve become accustomed to the last few months, such as 'Star Wars' and Marvel movies.

Conclusion

I’d say if you’re comfortable with earlier entries in the Ocean’s series, you shouldn’t have problems with this one. I believe these movies are meant for older audiences and not just because of the above-mentioned categories, but the tone of the film is geared toward more adult audiences.

“Ocean’s 8” is rated PG-13 for language, drug use and some suggestive content.
