PROVO — One person was killed in a car crash in Provo Canyon near Bridal Veil Falls on Thursday afternoon.

Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 4 p.m. when a Chevy Cobalt heading down the canyon in heavy rain lost control. UHP Lt. Cameron Roden said the car spun into the eastbound lanes, and a Kia Sorrento hit the driver's side of the Chevy.

The man driving the Chevy was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Kia driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Roden said the eastbound lanes are closed, and the westbound lanes are being used for travel in both directions.
