1. Rosie Rivera becomes 1st woman elected as Salt Lake County sheriff

For the first time, a woman has been elected as the sheriff of Salt Lake County. Unified Police Chief Rosie Rivera was chosen Saturday to fill Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder’s remaining 16 months in office.

2. Woman rescued, husband dead after kayak capsizes at Deer Creek Reservoir

An Orem man saved a woman after a kayak accident sent her and her husband into the water at Deer Creek Reservoir on Saturday. Hours later, search and rescue teams found her husband's body 75 feet under the water.

3. Officials: White nationalist rally linked to 3 deaths

A car plowed into a crowd of people peacefully protesting a white nationalist rally Saturday in a Virginia college town, killing one person, hurting more than a dozen others and ratcheting up tension in a day full of violent confrontations.

4. Body found, recovered from South Salt Lake creek

Police are investigating after a body was discovered Sunday in a creek in South Salt Lake. The body was spotted at about 4 p.m. by employees at a business near 135 W. 2950 South, South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said.

5. Firefighters battle growing wildfire near Honeyville

Fire battled an 800-acre wildfire near the town of Honeyville in Box Elder County Sunday. As of 9 p.m., crews had the fire 25 percent contained. No structures were threatened at that time, according to Mitch Zundel, economic director for Box Elder County.

1. Utah's Armand Shyne out with injury; offense making progress

The injury bug continues for the University of Utah in fall camp.

Following Utah’s first scrimmage of the season Saturday, head coach Kyle Whittingham announced that starting running back Armand Shyne sustained an injury over the last couple days and would be out for “a long time.”

2. CFB preview: Utah State out to erase memories of 3-9 season

The bar has been raised for Utah State’s football program.

After five-straight bowl appearances and 43 wins in five years, last season’s 3-9 record was unacceptable.

After an offseason of soul-searching and a new offensive coordinator, the Aggies are ready to rebound.

3. Dixie All-Stars fall 1 game short of Little League World Series with West final loss

The Southern California representative from Rancho Santa Margarita took an early lead, then held on in a slugfest for an 11-7 win in the 2017 Little League Baseball West Regional Tournament Saturday night at Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino, California.

4. Former Utah prep baseball star adjusting to pro ball with Helena Brewers

The teen phenom who plays catcher and designated hitter as a pro spent 24 games with the Brewers’ Arizona League team last year, and he didn’t start his rookie season until the Brewers’ Pioneer League squad in Helena, Montana, called him up on June 19.

5. Defense controls tempo in Wildcats' 1st scrimmage of fall camp

Defense ruled the day at Weber State’s first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday morning at Stewart Stadium.

The offense? It knows.
