OGDEN — Ogden police officers have 10 brand new law enforcement bicycles at their disposal, thanks to a company that wanted to recognize the agency's efforts.

The donation, made Wednesday by Connecticut-based Cycling Sports Group, amounts to about $1,400 per bike. The well-known bicycle supplier, which has held annual sales summits in Ogden since 2014, donated the bikes to say thank you to Ogden police for helping the company with road closures and bike security during those events, said Visit Ogden spokeswoman Sydnie Furton.

"Law enforcement does a lot to help them out when they’re here," she said.

The mountain bikes, manufactured by Cannondale, are designed specifically for police officers and have an especially durable frame, Furton said.

Ogden Police Lt. Chad Ledford said Wednesday the department is grateful for the needed equipment.

“We are thrilled to have received such a generous donation from (Cycling Sports Group)” Ledford said in a statement. “This year we were planning to request funding for new bikes. This gift helps us save those funds for other needs and ultimately helps us grow as a department.”

Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell said the donation was a pleasant surprise for the city.

“We sincerely appreciate this gracious donation,” Caldwell said in a statement. “It was an unexpected, but much needed and welcomed addition to our community policing.”
