CHERRY PEAK RESORT — Cherry Peak Resort is wrapping up a successful first ski season with $5 skiing on Saturday and plans to continue the fun with a 600-foot waterslide this summer.

Located about 15 miles northeast of Logan, Cherry Peak Resort is the newest resort in Utah, opening Dec. 21. Founder John Chadwick said the resort has had a good first season and they have been as busy as he’d expected with skiers, snowboarders and a lot of snow bike riders. The resort offers a couple hundred skiable acres, three triple chairlifts, a magic carpet, a tubing hill and a terrain park with 15 features.

Chadwick said they had planned to close for the season this weekend and host a big celebration, but due to the recent snowfall, they will stay open awhile longer, based on weather conditions. However, the resort will still host its Carnival Celebration and will offer $5 skiing for everyone on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a host of family activities including pond skimming, an Easter egg hunt and races.

The resort plans to continue its family fun by opening three mountain bike trails and a waterslide this summer. Chadwick said the “redneck water slide” will take place on the tubing hill and will be about 600 feet long. People will be able to ride a conveyor to the top of the slide.

A summer concert series will also be launched at the resort, with the first concert taking place Friday, June 10. The rest of the concerts will be announced on the Cherry Peak Facebook Page and will take place on the lawn of the grand lodge, Chadwick said.

While it is one of Utah’s smaller ski resorts, he said they have stood out with their affordable prices.

“We have probably the most family-friendly place on earth. Period. We’ve made season pass packages that, frankly, if you live in Provo, you can afford to ski at Cherry Peak and it’ll save you tons of money even with paying the gas,” Chadwick said. “Everyone has good things, but if you want to ski on a budget, Cherry Peak is the place to go. If you want to night ski on a budget, Cherry Peak is the place to go. And if you want to be on a budget, but still have some extreme terrain clear up to double back diamond … we are the place.”

Location: 3200 E. 11000 North, Richmond

Hours: Currently open only Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Night skiing is 5-9 p.m.

Price: An all-day adult lift ticket is $39. An all-day children’s lift ticket is $30. Night skiing is $25 for adults and $18 for kids.
