4. Major players shaping troubled Afghanistan's future

Saturday night's devastating attack on a wedding in Afghanistan's capital comes amid huge uncertainty about the country's future. The United States and the Taliban say they are nearing a deal to end America's longest conflict, one that has lasted a generation and left tens of thousands dead. The U.S.-Taliban talks have sidelined the government in Kabul, which is increasingly frustrated.

5. Epstein's purported madam now a focus in sex abuse cases

1. Press, Rodriguez keep Utah Royals FC rolling with 2-0 win at Orlando

Christen Press and Amy Rodriguez each scored a goal in the second half, and the Royals went on to shut out the Orlando Pride, 2-0 for their third-straight win Saturday evening at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

2. Vela, 10-man LAFC pull away from 10-man Real Salt Lake, 2-0 in battle of west's best

Carlos Vela converted a penalty kick just after the hour-mark, and 10-man Los Angeles FC went on to beat 10-man Real Salt Lake, 2-0 Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

3. Locals in the NFL: Former Utah kicker Matt Gay boots game-winning field goal for Bucs

The Orem High product and former Utah kicker-by-way-of-Utah Valley University has his first game-winning field goal in the NFL.

4. Donovan Mitchell scores 13 as USA tops Spain in pre-World Cup exhibition

Donovan Mitchell scored 13 points, Khris Middleton added 12 and the U.S. topped Spain 90-81 on Friday night in a warmup exhibition in advance of the FIBA World Cup that starts in China on Aug. 31.

5. Corner Canyon grinds away opening night win over Orem, 30-14

Austin Bell ran for 127 yards and three touchdowns to drive the reigning 5A state champs — now competing in Class 6A — to a 30-14 win over Orem in a clash of titleholders.
