SALT LAKE CITY — Police identified a woman Friday who was killed in a Salt Lake stabbing a few days earlier, officials said.
Candace Rose Samples, 20, was stabbed and killed behind a dumpster at 477 N. 300 West shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a tweet from the Salt Lake Police Department. Another man was critically injured.
When police arrived, they found both Samples and the man in "very rough shape," according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Cracroft. Firefighters declared Samples dead at the scene, but both she and the man were taken to a nearby hospital.
Police fanned out through surrounding neighborhoods and a helicopter hovered overhead Wednesday as police searched for a balding Hispanic man in connection with the stabbing. The man was last seen running south from the area and was wrapped in a blanket.
Police believe a man stabbed Samples and the man found in critical condition after an argument over a piece of property.
Cracroft said all three people were homeless.
