SALT LAKE CITY — The recent cold spell may have driven you back indoors, but that doesn't mean you have to stay cooped up in your house. Here is a list of five things happening this weekend that are worth going outdoors for.

Comedy night

Sammy's, the local restaurant that created the famous, delicious pie shakes is opening a new location and offering a fun night of music and comedy while they are at it.

The entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Hills Golf Course Clubhouse Grill with local singer Ashley Hess. Comedian and YouTube sensation, Stephen Jones and Michael B. will provide stand-up comedy beginning at 8 p.m. And trust me, these guys are funny. You may remember Jones from his BYU Library version of an Old Spice commercial. Hilarious. Take the whole family for some tasty food and laughs.

Utah Valley Women's Expo

Now, I know this event only caters to half of the gender population, but it's great for the ladies. The Utah Valley Women's Expo is held twice a year at the UCCU Center at UVU in Orem. There are a lot of booths and demonstrations offering basically everything that women like — fashion shows, beauty products, home items and decor, exercise equipment, money saving ideas, scrap booking, makeovers, hairstyling, bags, food demonstrations, — you get the idea.

The Expo will take place Friday and Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Take a friend, aunt, niece, sister, mom or grandma and enjoy the shopping.

Festival of Colors — Salt Lake City

Holi Festival of Colors

The Holi Festival of Colors in Spanish Fork has become so popular in recent years that a second chalk throwing celebration was created for the Salt Lake City residents to also enjoy the ringing in of spring.

The Holi Festival of Colors will be held at the Hari Krishna Temple in Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 20. Chalk throwings will be held every two hours beginning at 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. So in case you missed out, here is your chance to get colorful!

Earth Day Celebration

The Earth Day Celebration has been going on all week with different activities to promote caring for and cleaning up the planet. The activities will continue Saturday, April 20 at Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City. Families can learn more about birds and nature through several demonstrations. The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

#poll

The Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy will host the Earth Day events on Sunday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Go to learn more about the nature and wildlife covering our beautiful planet and how to take better care of it.

Artist in the park & free park days in Moab

Each year, the Utah National Park Service selects a local artist to highlight and display in the parks throughout the year. Moab artist, Sarah Hamingson, was chosen for 2013 and will have her artwork displayed at the Grand View Point Overlook in the Canyonlands Island on Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

And while you are in Moab, you should know that April 22 to April 26 is National Park Week. This is important to know because Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are waving all their park fees during those days. Enjoy.
