ANIMALVILLE — We all know that animal videos get a lot of views on YouTube, but if you are herding said animals in an unorthodox style, prepare to go viral.
As someone who grew up on a beef cattle ranch, I have some experience with herding animals. We have used horses, dogs, bikes, fourwheelers and walking on foot to get our cows to move from point A to point B. However, after watching these videos, I realized we have been going about it all wrong.
Farmer Derek Klingenberg posted a video Monday that showcases the ultimate way to herd cows. He sets up a lawn chair and with his trusty trombone in tow, he serenaded the animals with Lorde’s “Royals.” The cattle walk closer and closer until they are surrounding Klingenberg. He is basically the Pied Piper of cows.
But, if you can’t play the trombone, perhaps you could learn Russian commands because that seems to have the same effect on animals.
Another video posted to YouTube on Monday shows a Russian man shouting commands to a flock of ducks and the fowls quickly snap to attention and group together. After a few more orders, the ducks begin waddling into the open barn. Just like that.
Leave it to YouTube to make me realize the error of my herding ways.
