SALT LAKE CITY — Our Beehive State keeps growing with fast momentum. More and more people are flocking to Utah, whether for real estate demand, starting up a business or just some really great skiing.

While Utah is attracting lots of talented out-of-staters, there is still a lot of success happening from our very own born-and-raised Utahns. If you like supporting the micro-economy of our local neighbors, then here are a few startups that are being crowdfunded right now you should know about.

Coalatree's Trailhead Adventure Shorts

Economy-minded, local company Coalatree is at it again with their third Kickstarter and unique product: the trailhead adventure shorts.

Durable, water-resistant and fashionable, Coalatree's recent Kickstarter has clearly claimed it's popularity as the adventure shorts were funded in only five hours. After seeing incredible success with the Trailhead Adventure Pants campaign last year, they decided to come back with a summer-friendly version.

The shorts come in styles for both men and women, and just like the popular trailhead pants, the shorts are made with rip-stop material that prevents the shorts from any rips or tears. Best of all, their materials are made from recycled yarn and plastic bottles, so your purchasing choices as a consumer are going toward an environmental cause.

The Kickstarter has 22 days left, and as of Monday afternoon, had more than $142K already pledged.

Check out their Kickstarter here.

LightCam

This Salt Lake City company innovated the "average Joe" security camera into a super discreet light fixture. The LightCam is a controllable smart lightbulb paired with a security camera that you can easily install anywhere you have Wi-Fi and a light socket. This weatherproof, easily installed camera offers two-way communication, night vision up to 30 feet, built-in storage, and is easily accessed through a user-friendly app.

With the help of FundedToday and the growing demand of the product, this campaign is seeing huge success — as of Monday afternoon, over 1,700 funders had backed the project and it had raised more than $336,000.

It only has a few hours left though, so be quick to check it out here.

PEEjamas

The cleverly-named PEEjamas could potentially shape the future of diapers as we know it. Utah local Craig Hammond got the idea of PEEjamas from his son Marshall.

“During his potty-training years, we would be so frustrated putting a diaper on him at night because we felt like it was only delaying his learning. After weeks of research, we found nothing that we felt comfortable putting him in for his own learning and progress. So, we got to work developing PEEjamas. After many months of testing fabrics, verifying sustainability and safety of the fabrics, various rounds of beta testing, we've come up with a product that we feel can revolutionize nighttime potty-training!”

PEEjamas are made from a super absorbent fabric that will stay good for over 300 washes, according to the Kickstarter page. They’re growing fast in popularity, the page says, and have been featured on ABC News, CBS, NBC, parents.com, Romper, and other national outlets. PEEjamas can save the environment from pounds of trash accumulated from diapers, and they’ll save your child the nightmare of wetting the entire bed if they attempt to get out of diapers, the Kickstarter claims.

Plus, their slogan is simply amazing — “Look good peeing the bed!”

Their Kickstarter only has 10 days left. Check it out here.

Wildhorn's SV2 Seaview

After 1 1/2 years of perfecting this design concept and eight rounds of prototyping and testing, Utah company Wildhorn is creating the ideal snorkeling experience for you. While most snorkel masks only allow for breathing through a constrained air tube connecting to the mouth, the "Flowtech" system has two chambers and four intake valves allowing for air to circulate in and out with the most natural ease, according to their Kickstarter page. Their innovative snorkel design offers many cool features, such as an enhanced viewing area, anti-fogging and anti-leaking features, and best of all, it has a patent-pending "Flowtech" system that allows you to breathe naturally through your nose and mouth.

This Kickstarter is moving quick, with an estimated delivery for June. So if you have any fun summer vacations planned, check out this innovative local company and their SV2 snorkel design here.

Blue and White Collar

The perfect business dress shirt, the Blue and White Collar shirt was conceptualized and brought to fruition by Utah native, Ben Perkins. Their classic shirt is multifunctional; perfect for the office or church. It’s more affordable than the average collared shirt and is built with a stretchy, wrinkle-free material.
