WELLS, Nevada — A prison riot at a Nevada prison camp alerted several law enforcement agencies in the area, including Wendover police on Saturday.

A riot was reported at the Nevada Department of Prisons Honor Camp, located 45 miles west of Wendover. Officials from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Elko County Sheriff’s Office, Elko Police Department, Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Nevada Department of Prisons all responded to the camp, according to Elko County Undersheriff James Carpenter.

When officials arrived, they were notified that three to six inmates had been involved in a physical altercation, Carpenter said.

The Department of Prisons response team "took control of the incident and inmates involved" and medical treatment was provided for minor injuries. One inmate was taken to the Ely State Prison for further medical treatment, according to Carpenter.

The Wendover Police Department originally posted on Facebook that the camp had a prison riot and staff was "under threat as some prisoners might have escaped."

A few minutes later, Wendover police posted that no prisoners had escaped.

Additional information, including the time of the prison riot or if there were any staff or law enforcement officials were injured, was not immediately available.
