STREAMTOWN — It’s a new month. The summer is edging toward the dog days, the Major League Baseball All-Star game has come and gone and America is another year older.

It also means there are new titles streaming on your favorite platforms and I’m here to help you navigate them.

Between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, there are some great new titles, some of which you probably already know about, some you didn’t know were headed to streaming services and others you’ve never even heard of.

Here are the 10 best new streaming titles in July:

Netflix

Megamind” (Available now)

A good old fashioned family movie night is always a plus and thankfully Netflix has a few new options including “Megamind.”

Personally, I think “Megamind” is an underrated gem of an animated film. In 2010, it was lost in the hustle of another villain-gone-good animated film called “Despicable Me,” which is unfortunate because this flick starring the voice talents of Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill is a lot of fun.

“**Stranger Things,**” Season 3 (Available now)

I’m not sure I really even need to bring this up considering most of you have likely already binged season three, but I couldn’t leave it off the list.

The crew from Hawkins is back at it in the third season of “Stranger Things” and we’re all anxious to see what kinds of laughs and scares are in store this time around.

Mary Poppins Returns” (Available now)

Here is another option for a great summer night for the family.

“Mary Poppins Returns” is now on Netflix and it’s tough to find a more whimsical and magical movie streaming at the moment. The “Mary Poppins” sequel has its flaws and drags at moments, but the movie is a lot of fun, Emily Blunt is practically perfect in every way and it’s a great addition to the Netflix catalog.

Hulu

Big Fish” (Available now)

I know Tim Burton is not everyone’s cup of tea and I admit that his films are very hit and miss with me, but I think “Big Fish” is one of his most accessible and enjoyable movies.

The film stars a wonderfully charismatic Ewan McGregor and has one of the best father-son stories of any film. The colors are beautiful, the acting superb and the story captivating. This is one I will surely be watching now that it’s streaming on Hulu.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” (Available now)

With the incredibly disappointing “The Hustle” leaving a foul taste in my mouth, I am overly excited that “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” is now on Hulu.

The Steve Martin and Michael Caine con-man comedy is a classic with jokes that will leave your sides splitting. I’ve seen the film dozens of times and I’m looking forward to another viewing.

Quigley Down Under” (Available now)

I don’t mean to embarrass my mom here, but she has always had a bit of an unhealthy obsession with Tom Selleck.

That obsession led to me seeing every episode of “Magnum P.I.” when I was a kid as well as films no other kid saw like “Runaway,” “Lassiter” and “High Road to China.

But my favorite Selleck-starring flick was undoubtedly “Quigley Down Under.”

The western down under film also stars Alan Rickman as the bad guy, and includes some great action scenes and an ever charming Selleck. Much to my enjoyment and the utter glee of my mom “Quigley Down Under” is now available on Hulu.

Apollo 11” (July 20)

This one may not be on many people’s radars, but the fact that the documentary “Apollo 11” is headed to Hulu is very exciting.

The film is already a frontrunner to win best documentary at the Academy Awards next year, and it's a fascinating journey into the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon.

The filmmakers took thousands of hours of footage and audio and restored them, edited them together and created this really beautiful film of one of humankind’s greatest achievements.

Amazon Prime Video

True Grit” (July 14)

If westerns in Australia aren’t your thing, but you normally like westerns, then I’ve got you covered.

The Coen Brothers' 2010 remake “True Grit” is headed to Amazon Prime and it’s a fine example of filmmaking and how to remake a classic if you’re going to do it.

This was a tricky one to touch considering how iconic the 1969 film and particularly John Wayne’s Academy Award-winning performance is, but the Coen’s managed to make updates in the right places, pay enough homage to the original and make it fresh.

Arctic” (July 31)

I just mentioned “Arctic” in my best movies of 2019 article and I’m happy to let you know you can watch it on Amazon Prime later this month.

The film stars Mads Mikkelsen as a man who has survived a plane crash in the Arctic and has been living out in the cold on his own. I think “Arctic” will be a tough sell for many, but this survivalist tale is worth your time.

It’s also a great way to cool down from the summer sun because this movie will make you cold.

Eight Men Out” (July 31)

Summertime is baseball time, so why not watch a classic movie about America’s favorite pastime?

“Eight Men Out” is a look into the scandal of the 1919 World Series. The film boasts a stellar cast and manages to be a taut drama with high emotions. The film may seem a bit boring to some, but it’s a dramatized look into one of the most notorious and fascinating moments in sports history. John has grown up around movies and annoys friends and family with his movie facts and knowledge. John also has a passion for sports and pretty much anything awesome and it just so happens that these are the three things he writes about.
