ALL THE STREAMS — If you’re looking for ways to escape the heat and not lose your mind this summer, may I suggest staying in and watching a movie?
Some new titles are streaming during the month of July and I’m here to let you know about the ones you should be checking out.
July offers some old favorites, one I feel obliged to tell you about even though it hurts my soul and some picks you may not know about. Here we go with the best new titles streaming in July. They're available to stream on the date in parentheses.
Netflix
"Finding Neverland" (July 1)
It’s been a while since Johnny Depp made a movie I really enjoyed, so I’m usually looking back at some of his older films to find something that won’t make me roll my eyes. Netflix is now streaming one of these films, “Finding Neverland.”
The 2004 film tells the story of the family that inspired J.M. Barrie to write “Peter Pan.” Sure, the movie takes a lot of liberties and leaves a lot of things out when it comes to the actual story of Barrie and the Davies family, but it made a for a heartfelt film that is perfect for a quiet night in.
"Jurassic Park" (July 1)
I don't have a lot to say about this pick. “Jurassic Park” is the perfect summer movie and even after 25 years it still holds up as a fantastic movie and the best of the Jurassic franchise.
Steven Spielberg magic is on full display in the 1993 adventure film, and it will get your heart racing today just like it did then, and now you can enjoy it on your TV thanks to Netflix.
"Penelope" (July 1)
Here is a pick many may not be familiar with. The 2006 family-friendly romance “Penelope” is a sweet, funny and poignant film worth checking out.
The film stars Christina Ricci as a young aristocratic heiress born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love. Sounds pretty normal when it comes to romance movies, but the twist here is it takes place in modern day, Ricci has a pig nose and she needs someone to fall in love with her despite her appearance.
The film also stars James McAvoy and is one I recommend for those who have never seen it.

"The Brothers Bloom" (July 1)
Here is another film most have likely never heard of and that’s too bad. “The Brothers Bloom” is a 2008 comedy film from writer/director Rian Johnson, before he took on “The Last Jedi,” and stars Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz.
The movie is about two con artist brothers who take a beautiful and eccentric heiress on an adventure around the world. Obviously, things don’t turn out as they had planned. The movie is filled with hilarious moments, clever twists and surprisingly emotional scenes.
I’m a sucker for a quirky film with great actors and heists along the way, so it’s no wonder I enjoyed this one so much.
"Clear and Present Danger" (July 1)
Here’s an oldie but a goody. The 1994 thriller “Clear and Present Danger” was the follow-up to 1992’s “Patriot Games,” and in my opinion, is the best Jack Ryan movie to this day.
“Clear and Present Danger” stars Harrison Ford as CIA analyst Jack Ryan as he’s sucked into an illegal war between a Colombian cartel and the U.S. government.
The movie is tense, smart and exactly what a political thriller should be. I liked “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games” and I actually didn’t mind “The Sum of All Fears” or the more recent “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” but for my money Ford is Jack Ryan and “Clear and Present Danger” is the best of the bunch.

The "Twilight" Saga (July 1)
It’s my job to give you information and sometimes I have to pass along information that makes my heart hurt a little and this is one of those moments. If you love the "Twilight" saga that is just fine, I’m happy it gives you joy, but as for me, it’s not my cup of tea.
Good news for everyone else, however, because all "Twilight" movies are now streaming on Amazon Prime and you can watch vampires, werewolves and angsty teens run amok in the Pacific Northwest all summer long.
