TOLEDO, Ohio — A little girl’s attempt to con her parents into giving up a surprise has caught the attention and admiration of millions.
Don Bauer promised his three daughters a special surprise if they let their mom take a nap, since she works nights, according to Today. But 7-year-old Lily — the oldest of the sisters — couldn’t wait until after lunch to learn what treasure awaited her.
So she took matters into her hands. Or should we say — handwriting. Lily penned a note to her sleeping mother, posing as her dad.
“Dear Wife,” the letter begins. “What did you get Lily for a surprise again. I forgot. Please reply here. Love: Don.”
Lily’s mom, Krysta, woke up from her nap to find the note on the kitchen counter, and she couldn’t keep herself from cracking up. She gathered her girls to reward them with the long-anticipated surprise but couldn’t resist asking Lily about the note.
“Lily’s exact response was, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’ and a smirk,” Don Bauer told Today.
“She did later confess to me that she thought the letter was actually going to fool mom, but she does find the whole thing funny.”
Lily and her parents weren’t the only ones getting a kick out of her attempt at sabotage. Don Bauer posted a photo of the note to social media, and the image has been viewed nearly 2.5 million times on Imgur.
“Gotta give the kid props for trying,” wrote one commenter.
Those still dying to know what the coveted surprise turned out to be, hold on to your seats. Lily and her sisters feasted on Reese’s Sticks.
“The surprise may disappoint some people, but Lily… (was) very happy with it,” Don Bauer said.
