PURBACH — A Hungarian worker saved his own life after a horrible accident in which he cut his arm off below the elbow.

The worker, known as Tibor A., sliced his limb off when cleaning a machine that processes construction debris, according to NBC News. But after the accident, Tibor picked up his arm and carried it with him as he drove 15 kilometers to the nearest emergency room in Einstadt.

Police said the 37-year-old man survived without bleeding to death because he was in shock, according to ABC News in Australia.

The Metro reports that the man calmly stopped at traffic lights on the way and carefully parked in the hospital lot before placing his arm on the receptionist's desk and asking doctors to re-attach it.

"It seems incredible but it's a true story," police spokesman Walter Maier told The Metro. "His lower right arm was completely severed yet he managed to start the car and drive to the general hospital in Eisenstadt."

A man who accidentally shot himself while on a remote hunting trip has revealed how he survived the incident.

Tibor reportedly had to fish his own arm out of the machine he was using. It's not yet understood why he was not taken by ambulance and why none of his fellow workers offered help.

"We will be investigating why he was not taken by ambulance to hospital and how it was that he had to retrieve the arm himself," Maier said.

"But the investigation is on hold until we can speak to him."

Tibor was later airlifted to a hospital in Vienna where doctors attempted to re-attach the limb. It is not clear whether he will re-gain the use of his hand.
