SAN FRANCISCO — An online clothing store recently released its spring line and it used an atypical group of models.

Betabrand is an online high-end clothing store based out of San Francisco and it debuted its spring fashion line utilizing female models who all have or are working on doctorate degrees.

“When you look beyond the ranks of the professionally beautiful, photography becomes a lot more fun," Betabrand founder Chris Lindland said in a statement released by the company.

Each photo features a female model with a caption describing what sort of degree she holds.

“Sasha is a nuclear engineering candidate from Stanford University,” it says under the listing for the Del Rey Perfect Dress.

Models for Betabrand ads typically are chosen from friends and family of employees, Lindland said in an interview with AdFreak. The idea to find academic women came from this tradition.

The company sent out a call over social media and more than 60 women with doctorates responded, Lindland said in the Betabrand’s statement.

"Is it a fashion first to seek out nuclear engineers and medievalists to model your clothing?” Lindland said. “My guess: Yes."
