SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Department of Environmental Quality has issued a red air alert along part of the Wasatch Front.

The alert includes Salt Lake and Davis counties. A red air alert has also been issued for Cache County. The DEQ says residents in those counties are prohibited from any wood burning and should avoid unnecessary driving.

The state has also placed a yellow alert in Weber and Tooele counties.

The yellow advisory is not as severe as the red, but residents are also asked to cut back on driving when they can.
