OREM — About $4,000 of damage was done to a building under construction after someone drove a road grader through it Sunday night or early Monday morning, police said.
The building, which is located near 1500 S. State Street, is under construction and was only frames at the time of the incident, according to Orem police Lt. Craig Martinez. He said a Caterpillar road grader was parked at the construction site, but he did not know whether keys were left in the vehicle.
“At some point in time, someone decided to hop in it and drive right through the building,” he said. “There was no purpose for that whatsoever. It’s not like they were trying to break into a building and steal some contents from inside.”
The individual or individuals then siphoned gas from various construction vehicles on the site, Martinez said.
Police are hoping that since State Street is typically busy throughout the night, someone saw the incident at the construction site. Anyone with information can contact the Orem Police Department at 801-229-7070.
