SALT LAKE CITY -- Murder charges have been filed in connection with a 1989 murder.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office has filed charges against Jose Ortiz-Garcia in connection with the murder of Lela Rockwell.
Ortiz-Garcia, who is currently in a federal prison in South Carolina, faces several charges, including murder in the first degree and three counts of aggravated sexual assault.
A passerby found Rockwell's body in the area of 380 West and North Temple on Nov. 10, 1989.
Technicians with the Utah State Crime Lab and Sorenson Forensics recently tested samples preserved at the time of the autopsy and were able to obtain a male DNA profile.

Homicide detectives matched the DNA profile to Ortiz-Garcia through the FBI's Combined DNA index System (CODIS).
Police do not have contact information for the Rockwell family and ask anyone with such information to call Sgt. Kelly Kent at 801-799-3730.
