SALT LAKE CITY — Construction projects in four Utah locations may cause backup over the weekend and into next week, state transportation officials said Thursday.
I-15 in Juab County
Of the four, an ongoing I-15 project in central Utah might create the most problems. Beginning Sunday, northbound I-15 will be reduced to a single lane in a 7-mile section starting at the Juab-Millard county line north of Scipio to the Sevier River bridge near the Yuba Lake exit. Utah Department of Transportation officials said motorists should expect delays upwards of 45 minutes between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and recommend not traveling through the area through those times.
The pavement project, which began earlier this year, created lengthy weekend delays for southbound I-15 drivers in June. The northbound I-15 section will remain reduced to one lane through Wednesday. The project is expected to be completed before the end of summer.
The other three projects are in Davis and Salt Lake counties.
US 89 in Davis County
U.S. Highway 89 between Crestwood Road in Kaysville and Green Road in Fruit Heights will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday to 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and from 7 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. A temporary intersection and lane shifts that motorists will see over the weekend will be in place through next summer, UDOT officials said.
The construction is a part of a larger project to relocate more than 150 miles of utilities across the highway corridor, according to a project overview posted on the agency’s website.
“Impacts to travel on U.S. 89 can include shoulder closures, nighttime and weekend lane closures, one-way traffic operations on local side streets and frontage roads, intermittent driveway access interruptions and increased activity from construction equipment and trucks,” the page states. “U.S. 89 is now closed to pedestrians and bicycles.”
I-15 in Sandy
Meanwhile, northbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane near 9000 South in Sandy beginning about 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights to allow crews to work on a bridge and ramps as a part of a project that will add a new northbound lane from Bangerter Highway to 9400 South.
I-15 in Salt Lake City
Another project will reduce southbound I-15 to one lane near 500 South in Salt Lake City, and the 500 South onramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. Crews will work to complete pavement repairs and other maintenance during that time; all lanes are expected to be reopened after 5 a.m. Monday.
