SALT LAKE CITY — Red Butte Gardens is hosting its third annual "Blooming with Pride" event Friday, promising nature, community and the spirit of Pride Month.
Eight local artists came together to create living floral art installations for the event, contributing work inspired by this year's theme, "Rooted Together." The Red Butte Garden and Arboretum said the theme is based on its belief that plants are for everyone.
"This year's theme, Rooted Together, reminds us that gardens are strongest when many plants share the same soil, each with its own color, shape and story," Red Butte officials said in a social media post. "At the Garden, we believe that plants are for everyone, and we all deserve a place where we can grow, belong, and bloom."
The goal of the event is to bring the community together, according to Kate Randall, a marketing and public relations specialist at the botanical garden tucked away near the University of Utah.
Patrons can engage in family-friendly activities, including nature-based crafts, a community art project and a self-guided nature walk.
"It's just a way to celebrate nature, pride and community," Randall said. "Plants are for everyone. And we want everyone to be able to come up and enjoy and express themselves how they would like with their art installations."
Randall said "June bloom" is in full swing, which is what employees at Red Butte call it when the garden's roses are flourishing.
Timed-entry tickets are available now. Red Butte Garden members and University of Utah staff, students and faculty have free admission, but registration is required.
