SALT LAKE CITY – If you want to escape into the world of fiction or fantasy, step inside the Legendarium in Salt Lake City. This magical bookstore is a haven for gamers, artists, and dreamers alike. Whether you're a fan of immersive literature or a role-playing game enthusiast like 14-year-old Angel, it’s a place where your imagination can run wild. While working on a homemade dice tower at the Legendarium, Angel described his passion for Dungeons & Dragons, a game he said he’s obsessed with. “It's like building your entire world and character, but you have basically limitless creativity,” he said. Like many others who enjoy fantasy role-playing games, Angel values the sense of freedom that comes with D&D. It's a game that allows him to evolve characters and stories without boundaries. When asked if the game is complicated, Angel confirmed it’s not always simple. “Yes, yes,” he said. “It’s very complicated." Angel is also a big fan of art and anime and dreams of one day visiting Japan. While hanging out at the Legendarium he showed off a poster of his favorite anime series. “It's Dragon Ball Super,” he said. But it’s not just anime that captures Angel's heart. He also has a deep love for animals. His dream is to work with them when he’s older, and his favorite creature is the cat. “They’ve always been there for me when people haven’t,” he said. “So, it always feels nice to have an animal by my side.” Angel’s connection with animals speaks to a tender side of him that seeks comfort and companionship in a world that can sometimes feel uncertain. Angel has lived in foster care for two years now. “Being in foster care isn't a bad thing. If a parent can't take care of you or guardian can't take care of you, its something you can do to take care of yourself,” he said. In the midst of the challenges he’s faced, playing fantasy games like D&D has been a way for Angel to escape reality, even if just for a while. However, what Angel truly needs now is something more than an escape; he needs a real, loving family. Someone who will offer him patience and understanding. “Just being there for me,” Angel said. “I just need a family that cares.” To learn more about Angel, please contact Raise the Future at 801-265-0444.
