SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A transient has been arrested on suspicion of robbing five banks and credit unions around Salt Lake City since early February. Michael Bacon was arrested Friday for investigation of robbery after police said he led officers on a foot chase in the city. The 45-year-old Bacon is accused of robbing branches of U.S. Bank and Chase Bank within 45 minutes of each other last week.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Enrollment at Utah colleges and universities over the past three semesters has edged downward, and officials say a lower minimum age for Mormon missionaries has driven the trend. The new figures are an early indicator that the 2012 age change for missionaries is affecting young Mormons in Utah. Some state officials say they raise concerns that fewer female college students will graduate.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Female members of the Mormon church gathered around the world Saturday night for what leaders called a historic meeting of the faith. The church's General Women's Meeting for the first time brought together all female members from the age of 8 and older. More than 20,000 girls and women gathered in Salt Lake City while millions more watched in Mormon meetinghouses worldwide.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A compromise plan to restore the Provo River delta to ensure the survival of a native fish will be discussed at an open house Wednesday in Provo. The federal Utah Reclamation Mitigation and Conservation Commission last month unveiled the deal after critics called the earlier plan an attack on agriculture and recreation.
