ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Officials say the discovery of bird flu at another Minnesota turkey farm is unfortunate but not a crisis.
Authorities confirmed Thursday that the H5N2 strain of avian influenza has been found at a turkey farm with 21,000 birds in Nobles County in southwestern Minnesota. State Veterinarian Bill Hartmann says the farm is close to the Iowa border, so they're working with Iowa officials to coordinate the response.
But he says it still doesn't appear that the disease is spreading from farm-to-farm.
Officials later said the same strain has been confirmed in a second commercial turkey flock in Stearns County in central Minnesota — bringing the number of inflected turkey farms in Minnesota to five.
Migratory waterfowl are suspected as the source.
