SPANISH FORK CANYON -- A semi truck smashed into a pickup truck in Spanish Fork Canyon Saturday, killing one person and critically injuring another.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the semi, which was carrying mattresses, hit the silver Ford F-150 around 2:45 on Highway 89 near Birdseye. The driver of the pickup, 24-year-old Trent Walker, died at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck was flown to University Hospital in critical condition.
