(Photo courtesy Utah Department of Public Safety)PROVO -- A car changing lanes caused a fatal accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 15 near the University Avenue exit in Provo.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a Buick Century traveling north in the center lane changed lanes and hit a Chevy Cavalier in the right lane.

The collision caused the Cavalier to spin and the driver-side door to open. As the vehicle spun, both the driver and the passenger were thrown out of the vehicle onto the roadway. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The two were transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where the driver, 68-year-old Linda G. Jones, died. The passenger, 70-year-old Gordon Jones, is listed in serious condition.

There were no injuries to those in the Buick.

The accident blocked lanes and caused major delays for over two hours.

UHP troopers say charges are pending further investigation.
