LOGAN -- Logan police believe they've caught the man responsible for close to two dozen apartment break-ins. Those burglaries happened at apartments near Utah State University beginning this past December.
Thirty-two-year old Aaron Foote of Orem is now in the Cache County jail. He has been charged with three second-degree felonies and a parole violation.
When police caught him early Thursday morning, they found several items that were reported stolen from a break-in just a couple of hours earlier.
"We were able to find this individual in his truck, and we were able to recover some of the stolen property," said Logan police Capt. Jeff Curtis.
Some of the stolen property recovered belongs to Scott Egbert, who lives in the Cambridge Court apartments near the 600 East block of Canyon Road.
"We woke up last night at about 5:00 in the morning," Egbert said. "Our laptops were missing, all our wallets were missing, all our cell phones were missing, and he stole our keys to our cars too."
Right away, Egbert thought about the serial-burglar police were looking for in the area. That's when it really hit him.
"The thing that makes us the most nervous is he was brave enough to come into our rooms while we were sleeping," Egbert said. "My cell phone was charging on my pillow right next to where I was sleeping, and he came into my room and took it."
Egbert and his roommates called police, who tracked the burglar to the Old Main View apartments a few blocks away.
"He went into an apartment. We feel to try and hide from us," Curtis said.
That apartment was on the second floor. As police got closer, Foote cut through a screen and jumped to the ground. That's when police tracked him to his truck.
"We're happy to catch this guy," Curtis said.
Investigators say Foote has an extensive criminal history.
