SALT LAKE CITY -- More than 100,000 Utahns are being forced to choose between buying food and paying their rent or mortgage.
That's according to the nationwide Hunger in America Report for 2010. The report revealed more than half of the 243,000 people who receive assistance from the Utah Food Bank must make the choice between eating and having a place to live.
The report also found 42 percent of those getting food aid in Utah are children under 18.
The report includes a detailed survey of 408 Utahns who received help from the Utah Food Bank in 2009.
Nationwide, 5.7 million Americans receive food assistance each week. That is a 27 percent increase from the 2006 report.
