SALT LAKE CITY -- Investigators are focusing on a driver's cell phone records as they try to piece together what led to an accident that killed a construction worker.
Last October, Brayden Beddoes, 20, of Payson, was hit and killed by a pickup truck traveling in a construction zone on I-215.
The driver did not stop, but a witness gave investigators a license plate number. They tracked down a suspect, 49-year-old Michael Todd Brinkman. He was arrested and charged, but court records show the case was dismissed.
Investigators now want Brinkman's cell phone records to find out where he was before and after the collision.
The Deseret News reports a search warrant from Dec. 29 shows police want to see any calls the man made, as well as any text messages sent or received, in the time surrounding the crash.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers earlier said Brinkman had admitted to being in the construction zone and hitting something, possibly a barrel.
